A Corpus-based Study of the English Textbooks in Bangladesh

  • Conducted a corpus-based study on English textbooks in Bangladesh, focusing on vocabulary acquisition
  • Utilized Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools to analyze high-frequency and mid-frequency word families in SSC and HSC textbooks developed by NCTB
  • Results indicated insufficient coverage of high-frequency words, which may hinder learners' vocabulary development
  • Identified an overuse of mid-frequency words beyond the ideal range, potentially negatively impacting language acquisition
  • Noted that only a small portion of newly introduced words in the HSC textbook were repeated adequately for mastery
